Thermohydraulic calculations for liquid metals and liquid salts using TRACE; Capabilities, Limitations, Challenges
Montag, 19. Februar 2024, 11:00-12:00
KIT Campus Nord, INR, Bau 521, 2. OG, Raum 302
Abstract:
The TRACE code is the current thermo-hydraulic reference code of the United States Nu-clear Regulatory Commission (U.S. NRC) for safety related investigations of light water re-actors (LWR) during normal and off-normal scenarios.
Besides thermodynamic calculations for LWRs, TRACE is used at the INR to conduct ther-mohydraulic simulations of experiments in experimental facilities for liquid metals (KASOLA) or liquid salts (currrently HELOKA).
The presentation will look at the TRACE code, its capabilities and limits and gives some examples, how we can overcome these limits by code modifications directly in the code source.
Finaly, an outlook will be given for projects, in which we will be involved in the next years.
