Prof. Jyrki Saarinen, D.Sc. (Tech.), MBA, is co-founder of Heptagon (pioneer in wafer-lever optics) grew the company to worldwide business with over 1000 employees and exit valuation of 920 MUSD in 2017. He has global business experience and networks after working and living in Asia and 7 years in Silicon Valley, besides Europe. He is co-founder, board member and advisory board member in several startups and SME’s in high-tech and co-initiator of the Photonics Center Oy.

Currently he is Head of the Institute of Photonics at University of Eastern Finland and Deputy Director (impact) in Photonics Research and Innovation (PREIN) Flagship. He is Fellow of OPTICA (former OSA).
