YIN Lecture: Advanced Materials for Additive Manufacturing

Freitag, 11. Oktober 2019, 15:00-16:00
KIT, Campus Nord
Geb. 449 - lecture hall 114
Hermann-von-Helmholtz-Platz 1
76344 Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen

Prof. Bastian E. Rapp leads the Laboratory of Process Technology | NeptunLab at the Albert-Ludwigs University of Freiburg. Since his Nature publication in 2017, he is particularly known for three-dimensional printing in glass. Just recently, he was awarded one of the prestigious Consolidator Grants of the European Research Council ERC for setting up the first portable tactile graphic display using microactuator arrays. This just shows the width and depth of his research. Having been one of the first Young Investigator Group leaders at KIT in 2009, followed by a successful application in the NanoMatFuture Competition of the German ministry BMBF in 2014, Bastian Rapp has been a member of the Young Investigator Network for many years and we are very happy to welcome him once again at KIT.

In his public talk, he will speak about:
- 3D printing as the revolution of the 21st century in Additive Manufacturing
- advanced materials for Additive Manufacturing
- how to process glass like a polymer
- 3D-printing in glass for free-form generation of highly transparent fused silica glass
