Status of TBM manufacturing technologies

Abstract: The Helium Cooled Pebble Bed (HCPB) Test Blanket Module (TBM) is one of the most important components in focus for a future fusion power plant. It combines a protection function against plas-ma impact, heat exchanger for plasma radiation and tritium breeding function generated in breeder units (BU). Mostly stressed component of a HCPB TBM is the First Wall (FW). It is the first to the plasma orientated component of a HCPB TBM. In INR the HELOKA loop for instance will check the alternating thermal mechanical loads and remaining material (EUROFER) tensile strength with MU-s similar to a TBM. In ITER the TBM will demonstrate at first time in limited size breeder functions in parallel of withstanding to magneto dynamic & thermo hydraulic stresses under future DEMO power reactor relevant conditions. This report will show presently transmitting of scientific data to activate industrial manufacturing ca-pacities. There are running at INR different production routes in collaboration with German industry: In this presentation will be focused a FW production by two flat half pieces. These two symmetric grooved plates are connected by a diffusion welding process (HIP) and afterwards formed by bend-ing to a “U”- canister. The next steps of TBM box assembly mounts Stiffening Grid (SG) crosses, Breeder Unit cooling plates and manifolds into the U-shaped FW covered by side Caps and solid Back Plate. The rear inserted plates of TBM box are used as manifolds for the Helium coolant and the conduction of the purge case system. The talk presents therefore current efforts of different manufacturing technologies for KIT- HCPB TBM.
