BWRs Thermal-Hydraulics-Safety Analyses

Abstract: An overview of the activities of the BWR group of AREVA NP GmbH – Fuel sector will be given. Applications of safety analyses to support fuel reload licensing will be shown providing theoretical background and some exemplary results. Considered BWR transients include an anticipated opera-tional occurrence, a reactivity insertion accident and evaluation of BWR core stability. For these applications, a 3D core representation is considered. The results underline the necessity of advanced methodologies, like those used in AREVA NP GmbH, to provide an accurate evaluation of these safety analyses.
