maKeIT HAPPEN - From Clouds to Crowds: Climate Science in Action

Wednesday, 02 July 2025, 17:00-19:00
TRIANGEL, Kaiserstraße 93, 76133 Karlsruhe

Climate change is serious business - but that doesn´t mean talking about it has to be complex and difficult to understand.
At the next maKeIT HAPPEN event on Kronenplatz, two KIT researchers show how climate science can come alive: on stage, in the lab, and out in the world.

Hannah Meyer takes her audience to the desert - literally. As a climate researcher, she investigates, among other things, how dust from the Sahara affects our environment. But her work doesn´t stop in the lab and field: through science slams, she brings complex climate topics to the stage and makes them accessible, fun, and relatable.
At maKeIT HAPPEN, she´ll share how she found her way into science slams - and and how she is contributing to the battle against climate change.

Dr. Ottmar Möhler keeps his head in the clouds - for good reason. As an atmospheric scientist, he leads research at KIT´s AIDA cloud chamber, where he simulates real-world conditions to study how tiny particles influence cloud formation and the climate. But his impact goes far beyond simulations: Ottmar works closely with industry partners to develop new instruments and regularly opens his lab to the public.
At maKeIT HAPPEN, he´ll share how collaboration and curiosity drive his research - and how cloud physics can help us better understand climate change.

Together, they´ll share how they each create impact in their own way. Expect chuckles, "aha" moments, and insights that will stick with you long after the event ends.

Join us for an evening full of:
- Honest and humorous takes on doing climate research today.
- Real stories from two different paths of science transfer.
- Thoughtful conversations with curious minds over snacks and drinks.

The event will be held in English.

Whether you´re a climate nerd, just wondering what Saharan dust has to do with Karlsruhe or wondering how clouds are created in the lab - come by and get inspired!
