In the course of its 13th meeting, the Supervisory Board of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) re-elected its chairperson Professor Renate Schubert of ETH Zurich for another four years. Since 2012, Schubert has been chairing this body. Dr. Andreas Kreimeyer, former member of the board of BASF SE, will continue to be her deputy. The KIT Supervisor Board has eleven members.
“I am very happy that I will be able to accompany KIT on its successful way towards becoming a top institution in Europe for another four years,” the Chairperson of the Supervisory Board, Renate Schubert, says.
The professor for economics established the Institute for Environmental Decisions of ETH Zurich and headed it for many years. In addition, Renate Schubert has gathered vast experience from work in several bodies of the German Research Foundation and the Swiss National Science Foundation. She headed the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) and chairs the Advisory Board of the Center for Research on Environmental Decisions (CRED) of Columbia University.
“As the chairperson of the supervisory board, the experienced scientist Renate Schubert will accompany KIT and its strategic orientation in national and international competition for another four years,” the President of KIT, Professor Holger Hanselka, says. “I am very happy that the supervisory board with Mrs. Schubert at the top supports this so far only institution of this kind in the German science system in positioning itself for the future.”
New members of the Supervisory Board of KIT are Professor Claudia Eckert, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied and Integrated Security AISEC, Garching, and holder of the Chair for IT Security of TU Munich, as well as Professor Marliese Uhrig-Homburg, who holds the Chair for Financial Engineering and Derivatives at KIT. The term of office of the supervisory board members is four years, reelection is possible.
The Supervisory Board of KIT is responsible for the development and profiling of KIT as well as for enhancing its performance and competitiveness. In addition, it reviews the financial and investment plans and elects the full-time members of the Presidential Committee. It also decides on the structure and development plan of KIT and its constructional development.
The Supervisory Board of KIT consists of eleven members. Nine of them are chosen by a selection committee. In addition, the federation and the state of Baden-Württemberg are represented by a board member each. The members of the supervisory board are appointed by the State Minister of Science.
