Invitation to a Scientific Talk "How Can We Boost Responses to Weather and Climate Risks?" as part of the introduction of the new professorship "Decision Making Under High Risk and High Uncertainty" within the ERNIE Real-World Laboratory (Real-Time Decisions Under Risky Non-Knowledge in Impact Prediction of Extreme Events)

Abstract: Effective responses to extreme weather and a changing climate require acting on uncertain predictions rather than waiting for certainty. In this talk, I present a selection of recent projects on risk communication, decision-making, and uncertainty, and use them to highlight open questions about the barriers individuals and organisations face when trying to respond, adapt, and mitigate.
A recurring question across this work is how to move from understanding barriers to designing and testing interventions at scale. The development of the real-world lab offers a unique opportunity to explore how this can be done systematically. I will sketch some directions I am currently pursuing and I am looking forward to discuss your work and ideas for the real-world lab.
