The KIT Library has received funding approval from the DFG to establish the Specialized Information Service Chemistry.

Consolidating scientific information to provide researchers with a central, nationwide research platform is the goal of the new Specialized Information Service (FID) Chemistry, which focuses on organic and inorganic molecular chemistry. Karlsruhe Institute of Technologie (KIT) has received funding approval from the German Research Foundation (DFG) to establish the FID. The KIT Library is developing the platform in collaboration with the Institute of Biological and Chemical Systems (IBCS) at KIT and the Technical Information Library (TIB) in Hanover.

FID Chemistry strengthens Germany’s national research information infrastructure

The KIT Library and TIB are high-performance scientific libraries specialized in the natural sciences and engineering. The KIT Library has already successfully completed several projects in the field of chemistry together with IBCS, focusing on digitization, open-source software, and infrastructures for open science. The new Specialized Information Service Chemistry will facilitate access to previously scattered information and promote networking within the scientific community. Its services will be closely aligned with the needs of chemical research.

The DFG-funded FIDs complement the local services offered by universities and research institutions and aim to build a nationwide information infrastructure for science. The new FID Chemistry will enhance and strengthen this network.
