The 15th international CIRP conference on modelling of machining operations took place from June 10th to June 12th at congress centre Karlsruhe and was an opportunity for renowned researchers and research groups to exchange the newest findings. Over 150 participants from 22 countries were guided by Prof. Schulze from wbk Institute of Production Science at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) during the two-day event.

The emphasis of the conference was the modelling aspect of different production-processes, the different topics were “Optimization of Machining Processes“, “Thermal Effects in Machining Processes”, “Modelling of Material Behaviour“ and “Surface Integrity“, among others. These topics also had a high relevance for the industry partners.

Because of the large number of 95 accepted papers and scientific presentations, the conference had to be split into four parallel sessions. Six keynote-presentations from industry and science showed the current state of machining simulations and approaches, from material science, mechanics and physics, which will enter the machining simulation in the future.

The cultural highlight of the conference was the gala-dinner within the Schlossgartenhalle in Ettlingen with a musical program, international cuisine and a dinner speech about the similarities of skiing and machining.
