How about the digital traces we leave when traveling? What types of data are created by navigating or booking train journeys? And how can this data be used without compromising privacy? Answers to these questions are provided by researchers from the ANYMOS Cluster of Competence, of which Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is a member. This topic is on the agenda of the ANYMOS Knowledge Week at the TRIANGEL Open Space from November 05-08, 2025 at Kronenplatz Square in Karlsruhe. Admission is free.
KIT researchers, jointly with other institutions and companies, investigate how mobility data can be used in compliance with data protection regulations. The aim of the Cluster of Competence “ANYMOS –Anonymisation for Networked Mobility Systems” is to advance the further development of mobility in a sustainable, efficient, and secure way – and at the same time complying with the GDPR requirements. While mobility data is indispensable for traffic planning and the development of new mobility offers, personal information of traffic participants must not be disclosed.
The Knowledge Week offers kickoff speeches, workshops, a movie night, a scientifically oriented late-night show called “STULLE – wissenschaftlich belegt,” some offers especially for families, and a symposium to promote the dialogue between research and the public.
Program Highlights
At the “KI:NO Abend” movie night on Wednesday, November 5 at 19:00 hrs in the “Kinemathek Karlsruhe” cinema, the techno-thriller “Who am I” and a kickoff speech about data, surveillance, and AI, followed by a Q&A session, awaits the interested public.
Visitors of the 1st Karlsruhe Mobility Data Symposium on Thursday, November 6 from 13:00 to 17:00 hrs are invited to discuss data-based mobility of the future with experts (previous registration required).
From 18:00 hrs, Internet activist Markus Beckedahl and other experts will provide information on mobility data and cybersecurity and discuss these topics in a panel discussion entitled “Between Data Protection and Data Deluge: Why Does Our Society Need Cybersecurity?”
The Family & Friends Day, taking place on November 8, from 13:00 to 16:00 hrs at the Family & Friends “Science Fair!”, will feature demonstrators and hands-on stations where young and old can experiment, explore, and learn new things.
Free admission to all events.

Being “The University in the Helmholtz Association”, KIT creates and imparts knowledge for the society and the environment. It is the objective to make significant contributions to the global challenges in the fields of energy, mobility, and information. For this, about 10,000 employees cooperate in a broad range of disciplines in natural sciences, engineering sciences, economics, and the humanities and social sciences. KIT prepares its 22,800 students for responsible tasks in society, industry, and science by offering research-based study programs. Innovation efforts at KIT build a bridge between important scientific findings and their application for the benefit of society, economic prosperity, and the preservation of our natural basis of life. KIT is one of the German universities of excellence.
