The purpose of the Pro3 Process Engineering and Technology Network of Competence is the networking of research, teaching, and industrial application in the field of process engineering. Pro3 stands for the main topics of product design, process design, and process control. The network was founded in 2000 as a non-profit association. Among the founding members was Universität Karlsruhe that has meanwhile merged with Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe into Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. The tenth anniversary of the network will be celebrated in Karlsruhe on May 6, 2010, 16.00 hrs, at the Tulla-Hörsaal, building 11.40 am Ehrenhof. Representatives of the media are cordially invited.
Competences in process engineering and technology are decisive advantages of Germany as a location of industry, for example in the sustainable manufacture of new products and materials needed for managing global challenges like nutrition and mobility. For the benefit of our global competitiveness, these competences have to be maintained and extended. This is done by the Pro3 Process Engineering and Technology Network of Competence. As a special feature, Pro3 links fundamental research with applied research and industrial application. Education is considered as well. This is also reflected by the members of the network that presently consists of four research institutions, eight universities, and sixteen industrial companies.
The Pro3 Network of Competence focuses on product design, modeling and control of processes, reaction technology, and the promotion of young scientists. “Information is exchanged via expert bodies that initiate and accompany research projects,” explains the chairman of Pro3, Professor Martin Strohrmann. “In addition, we organize joint workshops and colloquia in order to better identify potentials of research topics and discuss new ideas. Teaching and training events and work at schools are intended to arouse the interest of young people.”
