KIT Showcases Humanoid Robot ARMAR at Cyber Valley Day
The Cyber Valley innovation campus, Europe’s largest and leading center for Artificial Intelligence and advanced Robotics, celebrated its tenth anniversary in Tübingen on September 9, 2026. At the event, KIT presented the humanoid assistant robot ARMAR. Minister-President Cem Özdemir of Baden-Württemberg opened the event and, together with KIT President Professor Jan S. Hesthaven and Vice President Professor Oliver Kraft, learned about current research at KIT’s High Performance Humanoid Technologies Lab (H²T).
Robotics and Artificial Intelligence for Everyday Life and Care
“Robotics and Artificial Intelligence are among KIT’s key research areas. The Cyber Valley innovation campus connects us with strong partners from government, academia, industry, and society to advance innovation together and make it beneficial for society,” says Professor Jan S. Hesthaven.
As societies continue to age, Robotics plays an increasingly important role in supporting people in care settings and everyday life. To address this need, KIT is developing the humanoid robot family ARMAR. ARMAR understands natural language, grasps objects, assesses situations, plans ahead, and continuously learns through interaction with people and from its own experience. “Humanoid robots represent the ultimate discipline of Physical AI, an artificial intelligence that acts and learns alongside us in the real world. The Cyber Valley innovation campus brings together exactly the right partners from academia, industry, and society to make this possible. Together with the Robotics Institute Germany, we are pooling expertise across Germany to pave the way for humanoid robots such as ARMAR to support care, households, and workplaces,” says Professor Tamim Asfour, head of the High Performance Humanoid Technologies (H²T) Research Group at KIT’s Institute for Anthropomatics and Robotics and spokesperson for the Robotics Institute Germany. Asfour also participated in the “Cyber Valley Voices” discussion format and presented current research activities in the exhibition area.
