KIT Excels in Teaching and Knowledge Transfer
Karlsruhe Institute of Technologie (KIT) maintains its position at rank 166 in the current Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking, delivering excellent results across several categories. Particularly noteworthy is the improvement in the “Teaching” indicator, where KIT rose to rank 147 globally, climbing nearly 50 places compared to last year (rank 193).
The “Teaching” indicator assesses the overall quality of the teaching environment and is based on five metrics: the ratio of doctoral candidates to students and to academic staff, the student-to-staff ratio, financial resources, and teaching reputation, which is the result of a global survey among researchers and teaching staff.
Shared First Place in the “Industry” indicator
KIT achieved a top global position in the “Industry” indicator, sharing first place worldwide with several other universities for the second time. This indicator includes the metrics “industry income” and “patents,” with KIT scoring the maximum number of points in both. The “patents” metric measures a university’s contribution to the national economy through technology transfer – specifically, the number of patents resulting from the institution’s research.
In total, 2,191 universities were included in this year’s ranking – about 100 more than the previous year. Across Germany, 55 universities are represented, compared to 50 last year. Despite this increase, KIT improved its national ranking by two places, reaching rank 15.
