48779-1
Festive highlight of the meeting: The alumni ball at the students’ house

From all over the world, graduates of Universität Karlsruhe will meet at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) on February 07 and 08. For the first time, a visit at Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, the northern KIT campus, will be part of the program on Saturday, February 07, from 13 hrs. Representatives of the media are invited to attend this visit and the other events.

“For our alumni, the merger of Universität Karlsruhe and Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe is rather exciting”, says Caroline Mattingley-Scott, head of the KIT department “AlumniKaTH • Career Service • Fund Raising • Foundations”. “The visits of the research facilities on the northern campus were rapidly booked out.” The members of the KIT Executive Board, Professor Horst Hippler and Professor Eberhard Umbach, will welcome the alumni on Saturday, 10.30 hrs, at the Center for Advanced Technological and Environmental Training of Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe. Professor Bharat Balasubramanian, Research Director of Daimler AG and alumnus of Universität Karlsruhe, will then speak about “Sustainable Mobility: Technology Roadmap of Daimler”. From 13 hrs, the alumni will be given the opportunity to inform themselves about current KIT research projects: Stations visited on the northern campus will be the bioliq facility, where fuel is produced from biomass, the neutrino scales KATRIN, the TOSKA magnetic coil test facility, the hydrogen test center, and the AIDA aerosol chamber. Alternatively, the alumni may visit the Lifecycle Engineering Solutions Center (LESC) and the 24-hour library on the southern campus.

As in the past years, other highlights of the meeting will be the alumni ball and the jazz breakfast. The ball will start on Saturday, 20 hrs, at the Mensa on Adenauerring: Among others, the university dance orchestra and the GlasBlasSing-Quartett from Berlin will play. The entertainment program will also include acrobatics, caricaturing, poker playing, and others. On Sunday, from 9.30 hrs, a jazz breakfast will be organized at the Badisches Staatstheater and the visitors will be given the opportunity to look behind the scenes.

500 guests on both days are expected by Claudia Reichert, head of the AlumniKaTH alumni network: “At the meeting, our alumni can start again where they stopped years ago – seeing the alma mater again and meeting fellow students.“ 15,500 graduates in more than 100 countries have meanwhile joined the network. “1500 graduates registered in the past two years alone,” reports Reichert. The latest member of the AlumniKaTH family is the Silicon Valley regional club that was opened by President Horst Hippler in the past week in California, USA.

Representatives of the media, who wish to accompany the alumni during the welcome event at 10.30 hrs and/or during the visit of Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe at 13 hrs are asked to register with Claudia Reichert.
