Students and companies of the region will meet at the first Ca-reer Fair at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) from May 13 to 17, 2013. On five days from 9.30 to 16.30 hrs, more than 180 companies will present themselves. Students, PhD students, and graduates of KIT and other universities in Karlsruhe will have the opportunity to directly meet potential employers and to establish first contacts on KIT Campus South.

KIT and industry try to keep highly qualified young scientists and engineers in the region. “The KIT Career Fair is to be a stepping stone for our graduates and an instrument for the promotion of economic development,” KIT President Eberhard Umbach says. “We are cooperating for our students establishing contacts to local and regional employers.” At the first KIT Career Fair, more than 180 companies of several branches will present themselves to the students. Among these companies are corporate groups in the energy and chemical sectors, automotive manufacturers and supply companies, financial service providers, business consulting companies as well as providers of software solutions and communication technologies. Some of the companies will have a booth in the tent on the Forum Square on Campus South (in front of the Audimax, Strasse am Forum), some may be found in the entrance hall of the Audimax on the theme days that are dedicated to certain disciplines.

As a special service, students can use a rickshaw shuttle service during the Career Fair. The fair will be preceded by a “warm-up” week, during which students are offered workshops to prepare for their conversations with the company representatives. During the fair, KIT’s Career Service will also offer shootings of photos to be enclosed with the applications, checks of the application documents, and general consultancy. The catalogue “Messekatalog 2.0” is also available as an app for the smart phone.

Companies located in the region will have the opportunity to meet qualified young scientists at the fair. “For recruiting new members of staff, the companies have to be known. That is why the companies will present themselves on the campus,” Dr. Dennis Nitsche, Head of the KIT Relationship Management Service Unit, says. “With the KIT Career Fair, we wish to facilitate contacts to smaller and medium-sized companies.”
