For Diversity and an Open Dialogue
“Openness and appreciation for different perspectives and approaches form the basis on which we can meet the challenges of our time – as a democratic society in general, but especially as a scientific institution,” says KIT President Professor Jan S. Hesthaven. As an international, interdisciplinary, and inclusive organization, KIT is dedicated to contributing to solutions for a secure and resilient future.
“Diversity is our greatest strength: different perspectives, experiences, and skills lead us to growth and success. At KIT, we are committed to building a community based on mutual respect, diversity, and equal opportunities,” says Hesthaven.
In its vision Science for Impact, KIT commits to democracy, dialogue, and internationality. These are deeply rooted values at KIT, Hesthaven points out: “Science thrives on open exchange across all borders.” In light of geopolitical crises, science also has a role to play in building bridges and keeping the opportunities for dialogue open. With students and employees from more than 120 countries, KIT stands for open mindedness and tolerance. KIT embodies an open and welcoming environment – and rejects any form of discrimination.
As a founding member of the Bündnis für Demokratie und Menschenrechte Karlsruhe, KIT together with other initiatives, churches, religious communities, political parties, associations, clubs, and institutions actively advocates a free and democratic basic order.
KIT also expresses its value of diversity among all people in its Diversity Statement.
