KIT Hosts the Most RISE Scholars in Germany

In the summer of 2026, 22 international bachelor’s students completed research internships at KIT, setting a new national record.

In the summer of 2026, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) hosted more participants in the RISE Germany funding program than any other university in Germany. A total of 22 scholarship recipients from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, and the United States completed research internships at KIT as part of the RISE Germany program administered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The scholarship recipients typically support experimental work as part of a doctoral research project.

“The outstanding commitment of the research staff at KIT is the foundation of our success in RISE Germany. They submit applications on behalf of their institutes, supervise the bachelor’s students individually, and thereby contribute to internationalization and a welcoming culture at KIT,” says Professor Thomas Hirth, KIT Vice President for Transfer and International Affairs.

This year’s scholarship recipients worked in ten institutes, including the Institute of Organic Chemistry and the Institute of Applied Materials.

About the RISE Germany Program

The DAAD program arranges research internships in natural sciences, life sciences, engineering, and computer science. Bachelor’s students from North America, Ireland, and the United Kingdom can spend up to three months working at German universities and research institutions through the program. In 2026, DAAD funded 350 students selected from more than 3,000 applications. 

KIT institutes can submit projects for the next funding round of RISE Germany until September 30, 2026. KIT bachelor’s students who wish to complete a research internship abroad can apply through RISE Worldwide.
