Being cited in other publications is of great importance to researchers across all disciplines. Citation frequency is a key indicator of a scientist’s influence and reputation within the academic community. This year, five researchers from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) have been named among the Highly Cited Researchers, a ranking compiled by the Web of Science Group. The list features researchers whose publications have received the highest number of citations.

For the current list, publications from January 2014 through December 2024 were evaluated. A publication is considered “highly cited” only if it ranks among the top 1% of total citations in its field and year of publication.

The Highly Cited Researchers 2025 include:

  • Professor Almut Arneth, Head of the Global Land Ecosystem Modelling group at the Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research – Atmospheric Environmental Research, KIT Campus Alpin
  • Dr. Torsten Brezesinski, Institute for Nanotechnology of KIT and joint BELLA laboratory of KIT and BASF SE
  • Dr. Amir-Abbas Haghighirad, Institute for Quantum Materials and Technologies of KIT
  • Professor Jürgen Janek, Institute for Nanotechnology of KIT, Scientific Director of the joint BELLA laboratory of KIT and BASF SE, and research group leader at Justus Liebig University Giessen
  • Professor Stefano Passerini, Head of the associated research group Electrochemistry of Batteries at the Helmholtz Institute Ulm, KIT Distinguished Senior Fellow, and Senior Expert Advisor at the Austrian Institute of Technology
