Following the success of the Universität Karlsruhe in the excellence initiative in 2006, the friends had the idea to “finance an advertising banner for the elite university”, tells Paul-Heinz Ludwig, chairman of this club of friends. While celebrating the promotion of the KSC to the first division of Germany’s soccer league, Ludwig informed rector Horst Hippler about his idea. Very soon, the entrepreneurs, united by their friendship to the KSC, agreed to finance a KIT advertising banner. According to Ludwig, this banner also shall acknowledge the contributions made by the Universität and the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe to the development of the city and region of Karlsruhe: “Some entrepreneurs have graduated from the University - and many enterprises gain resources from the KIT.” Moreover, the KSC and the University have been good neighbors for many years. Among others, the University’s Institute for Sports and Sports Science supports the soccer club in the organization of their training and analysis of soccer games.

On February 02, the KSC will start the second round by playing at home against the 1. FC Nuremberg. For the first time, a large audience will see the advertising banner and, according to rector Hippler, “help us in making the KIT known to a broad public beyond professional circles”.
