People

With more than 9,000 employees and 24,500 students, KIT is one of the biggest research and education institutions in Europe.
Promovierende des KIT

At KIT, more than 9,000 employees, including 6,000 staff members in the science and education sector, are working on scientific topics. They are supported by an excellent scientific infrastructure that allows for the execution of large-scale projects.

Education and the promotion of young scientists are in the focus of KIT. During their studies already are the students introduced to real research projects by research- and application-oriented teaching modules. A higher-than-average number of scientists and engineers is involved in the education programs. Ph. D. students, young investigators, and junior professors from Germany and abroad are offered innovative concepts for the development of their scientific and personal qualities, a unique environment of university-based and big research, and excellent national and international networking.

KIT Experts

From architecture to economics - KIT experts provide background information on many topics. They can be reached via a central portal.

The KIT expert portal is a service of the Corporate Communications Department (SEK-GK) of the KIT. On this page, media and other users may quickly and easily find contact persons for highlights of KIT research, teaching, innovation and service, as well as up-to-date topics. The experts provide background knowledge, assessments or quotations for journalistic contributions.

If necessary, the Corporate Communications Department searches for the appropriate contact person and arranges the contact.

International Scientists

KIT promotes international mobility of researchers. The International Scholars & Welcome Office (IScO) at KIT is the central contact point for them. IScO supports international researchers, lecturers, PhD students, postdocs and scholarship holders who come for a research stay at KIT. It also offers advice to KIT scientists who plan to go abroad or return from abroad.

Students in Research

KIT focuses on research-oriented teaching. The close interlinking of large-scale research and teaching opens up many opportunities to involve students in research at an early stage.

In the programme of the German federal and state governments for better study conditions and more teaching quality, the federal government funds the project "KIT - Lehre hoch Forschung" (Research-based Education). The aim is to introduce KIT students to research in their early semesters

An internship in accelerator physics at the Karlsruhe Research Accelerator (KARA), a job in the bioliq pilot plant, where a process to produce fuel from biomass has been established, a seminar paper at the wbk Institute of Production Sciende about the digital factory - three examples from a variety of opportunities for students to participate in current research.

Current research questions also characterize many theses - from app development to the drive engineering of electric vehicles.
