The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology cooperates with numerous partners in industry and science. The cooperations are based on the competence portfolio of the KIT which gives rise to a wide spectrum of knowledge, ideas, and know-how allowing to work on complex questions and to develop innovative ideas. Basically, KIT offers the following types of cooperation:
Cooperative Ventures
KIT and one or several partners from industry and/or science work jointly on a research project. In specific cases the work can be financed by public funds. Furthermore KIT offers two innovative cooperation models which focus on the transfer of knowledge and the promotion of young scientists:

Shared Instruments
One of the objectives of the so called “Shared instruments” is the promotion of young scientists. Excellent scientists study at KIT as well as in an industrial enterprise. The research project is jointly financed by the industrial partner and the KIT. KIT offers the models of a Shared Professorship, Industry Fellowship und Shared Research Group.

Transfer Projects
To encourage technology transfer KIT developped the model of a transfer project. The realization of the research and development activities is agreed upon in a cooperation and licence agreement with the industrial partner. The financial expenses of the institute in the cooperation phase are covered by the KIT seed funds which is refunded in the subsequent licensing phase.
