In November, KIT’s Students Counseling Center will offer a double information package. At “Uni für Einsteiger” (university for students-to-be) on November 16 and 17, pupils will have the opportunity to join lectures, workshops, and tours and to find out what studies at KIT will be like. On November 09 already, the Students Counseling Center and the Begabtenförderungswerk (organizations for the promotion of young talents) will provide information on scholarships as a possibility of funding studies.

At the event “Uni für Einsteiger“ (university for students-to-be), the eleven departments of KIT will present their study courses and research projects in more than 160 lectures, workshops, guided visits, and presentations. “Many institutes will offer their program on both days, Wednesday and Thursday,” says the organizer Heidi Eichenlaub from the KIT Students Counseling Center (zib). Due to the two graduation classes in 2012, KIT expects more pupils than in the previous years. “Our event will take place on two days. Everybody will have the opportunity to visit KIT independently of the fact on which of both days the schools will grant leaves to their pupils.”

From food analysis to biomedical technology, from meteorology to product development, from architecture to mathematics. Pupils interested in studies can join the special events organized for them as well as some regular lectures and seminars. The program will be completed by laboratory visits, tours of the 24-hour library and the Steinbuch Centre for Computing (SCC), the scientific computing center of KIT, as well as by excursions to KIT Campus North.

“Uni für Einsteiger” will start at 8.30 hrs in the Audimax (Strasse am Forum 1, building 30.95) on both days. Professor Jürgen Becker, the Chief Higher Education Officer (CHEO) responsible for studies and teaching at KIT, will welcome the pupils. Then, the eleven departments will provide insight into research and education at their institutes. Information will also be provided by the service units of KIT at stands in the entrance hall of the Audimax until 16.00 hrs. Also the MINT-Kolleg Baden-Württemberg will present itself. It offers a general preparation program to facilitate the transition from school to studies of mathematics, informatics, natural sciences, and engineering. Information will also be offered by the House of Competence (HoC), the central institution of KIT for conveying key qualifications, the International Students Office, the Studentenwerk (students union), and the Unabhängiger Studierendenausschuss (UStA, independent students committee). KIT’s Students Counseling Center that organizes the event will give advice on applications, admission, and financing.

The complete program brochure may be obtained from zib (Zähringer Straße 65) or at http://www.kit.edu/studieren/3063.php on the internet.

Scholarships – Not only for Top Achievements

On Wednesday, November 09, at 17.30 hrs, zib, together with the large German organizations for the promotion of talents, will provide information on scholarships as a possibility of funding studies at the Tulla-Hörsaal (Englerstrasse 11, building 11.40). “Many students think that their achievements are not good enough for a scholarship,” says the counselor Heidi Eichenlaub. “We would like to show that scholarships do not only depend on above-average achievements.” We will address students of all disciplines and nationalities who will continue their studies for at least four semesters (including the running semester) as well as interested pupils. At first, the scholarship holder Martin Förster will give an overview of the German organizations for promotion of talents and inform about intangible and financial support, the respective requirements, and application procedures. Then, the organizations will present themselves and provide information at stands in the entrance hall in front of the Tulla-Hörsaal. The following organizations will be represented: Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes, Cusanuswerk, Evangelisches Studienwerk, Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft, Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung, Hans-Böckler-Stiftung, and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. Moreover, zib will provide information on the Deutschlandstipendium at KIT.

The program is available on the internet at http://www.kit.edu/studieren/3269.php.
