About 4200 young people will start their studies at KIT in the coming 2011/12 winter semester. At a celebration, KIT will now welcome its freshmen and present its competencies in research and education. The freshmen welcome event on Friday, October 14, at the Schwarzwaldhalle of the Kongresszentrum Karlsruhe will start at 18 hrs. Representatives of the media are cordially invited.

The Chief Higher Education Officer of KIT, Professor Jürgen Becker, will present to the students and their families the excellent opportunities associated with education at KIT. As the largest German research and education institution, KIT offers its students a unique environment for studies in Germany, which results from the close connection of large-scale research on Campus North with teaching on Campus South. The students will be given exciting insights in scientific projects. KIT’s faculty-student ratio is excellent. Interdisciplinary research is of high priority: At the KIT Centers and KIT Focuses, scientists of various disciplines cooperate. Important research topics are Energy, Nano- and Microtechnology, Mobility Systems, Climate and Environment, Elementary Particle and Astroparticle Physics, and others.

During the freshmen welcome event, 39 students will be honored for their high commitment in scientific, social, economic, or cultural university groups or student associations. In addition, the Henning Tögel talent foundation will award its prize for excellent scientific achievements.

The Career Service of KIT will provide all freshmen with a backpack. Among other things, it will contain information of various KIT institutions and university groups, of the Studentenwerk (Student Union), and the Allgemeiner Studierendenausschuss (AStA, General Students Committee). The brochure “Erstsemester-Guide to KIT“ (KIT Guide for Freshmen) contains important information on studies, central institutions and services, and counseling offers at KIT.

Information on studies, exciting insights into the professional world, and impressions of the life on campus can also be found in the online students magazine ClicKIT at www.kit.edu/clickit.
