The Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe was awarded the predicate “TOTAL E-QUALITY" that is granted to enterprises, organizations, universities, and research institutions pursuing a gender equality staff policy. This has been the third time after 2002 and 2005.

Gender equality in the sense of the “TOTAL E-QUALITY" predicate is achieved, if talents, potentials, and competences of the genders are equally acknowledged, considered, and promoted. The Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe is taking extensive measures to reach this objective. A gender equality policy is pursued in staff marketing, invitations of applications, and appointments as well as in a specific advanced training program. Another focus lies on measures to support the compatibility of job and family. They include among others a variety of flexible working time models (including telework) as well as support in child care, e.g. by the company’s daycare facility.

The TOTAL E-QUALITY Deutschland e.V. association that awards this predicate was founded in 1996 at Frankfurt/Main. It dates from a conference of the “Positive Actions” Network of the European Commission in May 1994 at Como (Italy).

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is the merger of the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, member of the Helmholtz Association, and the Universität Karlsruhe. This merger will give rise to an institution of internationally excellent research and teaching in natural and engineering sciences. In total, the KIT has 8000 employees and an annual budget of 700 million Euros. The KIT focuses on the knowledge triangle of research – teaching – innovation.

The Karlsruhe institution is a leading European energy research center and plays a visible role in nanosciences worldwide. KIT sets new standards in teaching and promotion of young scientists and attracts top scientists from all over the world. Moreover, KIT is a leading cooperation partner of industry.
