Whether it’s on a racing bike, mountain bike or trekking bike – from June 19 to 23, 2019 the 22nd Tour Eucor is once again taking cyclists to the Eucor university cities of Karlsruhe, Strasbourg, Mulhouse, Basel and Freiburg. There is something for everyone in the different tours with six degrees of difficulty: the circular routes are between 600 and 900 kilometers long and lead along the Rhine or over the most beautiful mountains of the Black Forest and the Vosges. This year, 120 students, doctoral candidates, professors, employees and alumni from the Eucor universities will take part. It traditionally starts in front of Karlsruhe Palace, this year on June 19 at 8 am.

“Year after year, we want to use the tour to send out a clear signal for Europe, promote intercultural exchange among participants and put together a great event,” says Ingo Ziegenhohn from the Tour Eucor organization team. This year’s sporting highlights include the Palatinate Forest, the Schelten Pass in the Swiss Jura Mountains and the 1284 meter high Schauinsland which five of the six groups will climb. “Even though there’s a healthy amount of competition going on, it’s always a lot of fun. Spending lunches together, smaller breaks and a varied event program make sure of that,” says Ziegenhohn.

Before the tour kicks off in Karlsruhe, Professor Thomas Hirth, Vice President for Innovation and International Affairs at KIT, will welcome the cyclists. Dr. Martin Herrenknecht is the patron of this year's Tour Eucor who as a committed European and company founder in the Ortenau region has strong ties with the Eucor region.

The Tour Eucor has been organized by a group of 14 people from all Eucor universities; a team of 14 volunteers from the KIT Department of Economics and Management will be in charge of food and luggage transport.

Eucor – The European Campus

Eucor – The European Campus is a confederation of KIT and the Universities of Basel, Freiburg, Strasbourg and Upper Alsace, forming a tri-national higher education network that currently includes 117,000 students, 15,000 researchers and 13,500 doctoral candidates. The collaboration enables the definition of a common vision for teaching, research and innovation and gives students free access to the range of courses offered by the other universities. There are plans to expand the confederation into an attractive research and science network with an international presence to facilitate joint appointments, joint staff and joint applications for research funding, and to intensify the establishment of integrated study programs. Eucor – The European Campus builds on long-standing cooperation between the Upper Rhine universities. In 1989, they joined forces to form a cross-border network under the name of Eucor.
