Safe and Economically Efficient Roads

“Road Operation” Colloquium with Technical Exhibition on September 13 and 14 at KIT

Winter services during extreme weather, measures against icy conditions, and possibilities of an economically efficient road operation are among the topics of the colloquium on “Road Operation 2011” on September 13 and 14 at KIT. The first day will be dedicated to winter services, the second day to other activities relating to road operation and organizational aspects. The Institute of Highway and Railroad Engineering (ISE) of KIT will organize the colloquium and the accompanying exhibition together with the Research Association for Roads and Transport Systems (FGSV). Representatives of the media are cordially invited.  
 

The colloquium at the AudiMax (building 30.95, Straße am Forum 1) on KIT Campus South will start on Tuesday, September 13, 10 hrs, and on Wednesday, September 14, 9 hrs. Following the welcome addresses by Dr. Horst Hanke, Head of the Commission on Winter Services of FGSV, the Chairman of the FGSV, Wennemar Gerbens, and the Head of ISE, Professor Ralf Roos, Dr. Hans Schipper from KIT’s South German Climate Office will make the opening presentation on “Global Causes – Regional Impacts: Future Development of Winter Weather in Germany.”
 
The colloquium that will take place for the 6th time in Karlsruhe will cover latest developments of road operation services, new research results, and regulations as well as problems in practice. About 400 experts are expected to come. 19 lecturers will present their presentation in five sessions: Management on the basis of optimized weather prognoses, winter services during extreme weather situations, latest methods to fight icy conditions, special aspects of road operation, new ways of economic optimization of road operation. The presentations will cover among others the SWIS road status and weather information system, salt management, new information and communication technologies for road operation as well as requirements on the maintenance of dehydration systems.
