Absence of mercury, a favorable CO2 balance, low costs of manufacture, and an excellent light quality are the features characterizing the electrode-free low-energy bulb “3rdPPBulb” that was co-developed by scientists of the Light Technology Institute (LTI) of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). KIT scientists contributed the mercury-free filling, fluorescent coating, inner coating as well as the geometry of the innovative bulb.

What do the students expect in the new decade that started on January 01? Do they worry about the future? Do they already have a job after they will have completed their studies? Or do they only think of the next examination?

How much do students donate? Are they penny-pinching, because they have to pay tuition fees and living expenses increase or are they generous when they are convinced of a good cause.

“Financial crises belong to capitalism as water to the sea,” says the renowned economist and Jesuit Friedhelm Hengsbach. The current crisis, however, is unparalleled, he says, and represents a dramatic imbalance of income and asset distribution. During this presentation at KIT within the framework of the series “Dialog” organized by the Center for Applied Cultural Science (ZAK), Hengsbach explained the possibilities of economic upswing beyond financial capitalism.

Work of the Karlsruhe University Society seldom is in the light of the public. But still, it renders valuable help, wherever the short means of the university are not sufficient. For example, the society supported the Heinrich-Hertz Gastdozentenhaus (house for guest scientists). Its Heinrich Hertz guest professorship brings prominent personalities of science and public life into the lecture hall every year.
