Nuclear Fusion Program

Fusionsreaktor ITER
Experimenteller Fusionsreaktor ITER
Within the framework of the European Fusion Programme, the Research Center’s Nuclear Fusion Program addresses basic technical issues related to the development of a fusion power reactor. Following the principle of energy generation by the sun, a hot plasma of more than 100 million degrees is generated in this reactor. Thus, the reactor opens up a new source of energy that combines favorable safety features, almost unlimited fuel reserves, and a low environmental pollution.

Research focuses on superconducting magnets, gyrotron development, the solid blanket, tritium technology, and materials research.
