Within the framework of the European Fusion Programme, the Nuclear Fusion Program addresses basic technical issues related to the development of a fusion power reactor. Following the principle of energy generation by the sun, a hot plasma of more than 100 million degrees is generated in this reactor. Thus, the reactor opens up a new source of energy that combines favorable safety features, almost unlimited fuel reserves, and a low environmental pollution.

Research focuses on superconducting magnets, gyrotron development, the solid blanket, tritium technology, and materials research.
