The Universität Karlsruhe will organize more than 100 events to present itself as a place of research and education to pupils, who are interested in starting their studies there. The program ranges from a visit of the hydraulic engineering laboratory to a photonics lecture with experiments, from a visit of the 24-hour library to the workshop “Product Development”. Professor Detlef Löhe, Prorector for Research, will welcome the pupils at 9 a.m. in the Audimax (Straße am Forum 1, building No. 30.95). Afterwards, the eleven faculties of the university will provide information on research and teaching in lectures, excursions, and practical trainings.

Possibilities of studies and professional perspectives will be presented at information desks in the entrance hall of the Audimax. There, visitors may also inform themselves about institutions like the ZAK (Center for Applied Cultural Sciences and General Studies), the International Office, and the Studentenwerk. The Zentrum für Information und Beratung (zib, Center for Information and Consulting Services) that organizes this information day will convey useful information on the application procedure and the start of the studies.

The Universität Karlsruhe succeeded in the Excellence Initiative with its concept for the future. Apart from the foundation of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), this concept contains other novelties, from which students may profit. Among them is the House of Competence (HoC) that promotes the conveying of key qualifications, such as the capability to work in a team, readiness to cooperate, and the capacity to solve problems in studies and teaching. The HoC will also have an information booth in the Audimax. Pupils will obtain more information on the KIT by a video: The film will be presented from 11 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the events of the zib in the Nachrichtentechnik lecture hall (Communication Technology, Engesserstraße 5, building No. 30.10) and also at the information desk presenting “Die neue Universität” (The New University) in the entrance hall of the Audimax.

Programs of this information day may be obtained from the zib (Zähringer Straße 65) or on the internet under http://www.zib.uni-karlsruhe.de/.
