Information about studies at KIT – on the Information Day for pupils

Studies at KIT – they may be experienced by pupils during the event “Uni für Einsteiger“ (University for freshmen) on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, 8.30 to 16 hrs on Campus South. Faculties and central institutions will present studies offered by KIT in presentations, workshops, on guided visits, and at information booths.

More than 100 events will be organized by eleven faculties to present their studies courses and research projects. They range from media history to the construction of buildings to nanoelectronics to geocaching to financial engineering. Pupils are also invited to participate in some regular lectures and seminars. In addition, visits to laboratories, tours through the 24-hour library and the Steinbuch Centre for Computing (SCC), and excursions to Campus North will be offered.

What does the largest scientific institution in Germany offer future students? Questions regarding studies at KIT will be answered by Professor Jürgen Becker, Acting Division Director for Studies and Teaching, and by Heidi Eichenlaub, studies advisor from the Center for Information and Counseling (zib), at a press conference at 13.30 hrs. Meeting point will be the zib booth in the entrance hall of the Audimax. Journalists, who wish to take part, are kindly asked to register using the form enclosed.  

“Uni für Einsteiger” will start at 8.30 hrs in the Audimax (Straße am Forum 1, building 30.95). Professor Jürgen Becker will welcome the pupils. Then, the eleven faculties will provide insight into their research and teaching activities. Until 16 hrs, pupils may also obtain information from these and other institutions at information booths in the entrance hall of the Audimax. More information on KIT will be provided at the booth “KIT – Gemeinsam an die Spitze“ (KIT – Together to the Top). The House of Competence (HoC), an institution conveying key qualifications, will present itself. It bundles the offers of ZAK | Center for Applied Cultural Science and Studium Generale, the language center, and the remote studies center. The International Office, the German-French Initiative of KIT (KIT DeFI), the Studies Center for Visually Handicapped People, the Studentenwerk, the Independent Students’ Committee (UStA), and Stadtmarketing Karlsruhe GmbH will also have information booths. zib that organizes the Information Day will provide information on applications, admittance, and funding of the studies at its information booth and by presentations.

Excursions to Campus North, the site of the former Research Center, will be offered every hour from 12 to 15 hrs. Presentations, a tour on the premises, and a visit of the permanent exhibition will inform about the main research activities on Campus North. Interested pupils are kindly asked to register one hour before the start of the tour at the KIT booth in the entrance hall of the Audimax. The departure of the KIT shuttle will be 30 minutes prior to the start (station Engesserstraße).
