Kompetenzfeld "Nanowissenschaft"

Nanowire FaillureThis Competence Field aims at synthesis, structuring, analyzing, and understanding matter and functional devices on a spatial scale ranging from less than 100 nanometers down to the atomic scale in at least one dimension. Often, patterning in two or three dimensions is considered. Due to the reduced spatial scale, novel effects (e.g., quantum effects) come into play. It comprises Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering Sciences and forms the basis of a future nanotechnology. In addition nanobiological research is part of this CF. It is focussed on the interface between living matter and inanimate materials, such as cellular interactions on nanostructured and biofunctionalized surfaces, or the transport of nanomaterials across cellular membranes.
