This Competence Field comprises research and development of materials, processes and methods for the fabrication of micro-components and for the development of entire micro-systems. Typical application fields include micro-systems for analysis in chemistry, biology and medicine, devices for micro process engineering, sensors, and micro-mechanical actuation. It bridges a wide gap between research and applications including product development and even commercialization. Participating researchers for this interdisciplinary research have backgrounds in engineering sciences, physics, chemistry, and biology.
