This Competence Field deals with power plants including on the system level advanced thermal concepts and underlying thermodynamic cycles (combined heat and power/and cooling/and chemicals, processes with CO2 sequestration), systems analysis (technical, economical and ecological, environmental impact), and plant availability. It includes boilers (burners and combustion, heat radiation), steam turbines, gas turbines and aero engines, hydrogen technology, superconducting power devices as well as special material development with respect to erosion and corrosion. Particularly, fusion and fission reactors technologies are considered with emphasis on nuclear waste storage, radiation protection, fusion magnet and plasma heating technologies, neutron physics, thermo-hydraulics, safety analyses.
