Events in the Science Year "The Future of Energy"

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is one of the leading energy research institutions in Europe. In the Year of Energy, it is involved in numerous join-in actions and exhibitions. KIT also organizes events focusing on the topic of energy.

  

Energy Quiz of the Helmholtz Association

The online quiz focusing on the topic of energy will offer numerous chances to win. All people interested in puzzles and wishing to test their knowledge are invited to participate.

 

Open House at KIT

On the Day of Energy, September 25, 2010, KIT will present its scientific work, research devices, and technical equipment to the public on Campus North. An attractive entertaining program will complete the event.

MS Wissenschaft Exhibition Ship

On board of the exhibition ship MS Wissenschaft (MS Science), KIT energy research is represented by the model of a light water reactor and the model of a prototype vitrification plant. MS Wissenschaft will start in the middle of May in Berlin. Its tour will end in October at Würzburg.

 

Mainau Exhibition “Entdeckungen – Discoveries”

The exhibition on the island of Mainau in Lake Constance invites young researchers to look into the subject of energy. At its exhibition pavilion, KIT will present exhibits relating to the Karlsruhe bioliq process.

 

Research Market

Via this online platform, school classes or teachers are given the possibility to directly contact energy experts, to visit them, or to invite them to come to their schools. KIT scientists will also participate and answer the questions of the young researchers.

 

Children’s University at KIT

Vivid lectures and join-in actions will be organized to provide the little students with more information on exciting natural and everyday phenomena. This year, the series of events will focus on the topic of energy. The events are suited for children aged from 8 to 12.

 

Science Summer

This year’s science festival will take place at Magdeburg from June 5 to 11 and enable the public to immerse into the world of research and inventions in various ways. KIT will participate with school laboratories and will invite young people keen on experimenting to join in.

 

2010 Science Days at Europa-Park Rust

At the 2010 Science Days, pupils may come to the booth of KIT in order to find out how fuel is produced from straw and how the Karlsruhe bioliq process works.

 

“Energy” Science Camp at KIT

The science camp program from September 6 to 10 addresses young people aged between 14 and 16. It comprises the execution of small projects with experiments and searches and the young participants gain insight in the job of engineers and scientists.

 

Citizen Forums on Energy in Karlsruhe

In several German cities, “Wissenschaft im Dialog” (Science in Dialog) offers various platforms for discussions between science and society. These include among others pupils’ parliaments or citizen conferences as well as forums and blogs on the internet. At Karlsruhe, KIT participates in citizen forums on energy.
