Gender Equality at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)

Granting equal opportunities to men and women in research and lecturing is one of the declared objectives of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Still, the proportion of women in technical and scientific professions is very small. Hence, the KIT has taken a number of actions to arouse interest in science and engineering at young age already and to promote the professional career of employees.

The catalogue of actions addresses target groups of various ages:

  • The youngest are offered workshops and lectures at the university for kids.
  • Female pupils may inform themselves about technical professions and studies on the Girls’ Day.
  • Young scientists and employees in the service sector are given optimum work conditions by enhancing the compatibility of job and family, i.e. children are looked after during the holidays or jobs are created for the re-entry after parental leave. Moreover, special training is offered for the job and career and programs are launched for promoting young scientists.

Detailed information can be found on the websites of the  KIT gender equality.
