At the hydrogen pilot plant station, KIT scientists explore questions of security.

Enterprises, universities, research institutions, and business schools have joined the network. The European Institute of Innovation and Technology will fund the KIC InnoEnergy with presumably 30 million Euros annually until 2014. Within the community, the KIT Energy Center plays a central role.

How can energy be saved? For example, by means of a “green” process for cement production invented by KIT scientists. “Celitement®” also has the potential of considerably reducing the worldwide emission of the climate gas carbon dioxide.

Supercomputing in Energy Research

Solutions for future energy supply are also developed by the new HPC Energy Solution Center Karlsruhe. The non-profit association at KIT develops programs and tools for the efficient use of supercomputers in energy research and technology. In this field, the KIT Energy Center cooperates very closely with the Steinbuch Centre for Computing (SCC).
